Want to restore deleted annotations

I have deleted the annotations by mistake and undo does not work.
There are time machine backup data for mac pc but the pdf file itself does not seem to have any annotations in it.
So where is the annotation data stored and can I restore it?
  • 188BET靠谱吗Annotations made in Zotero Reader tab is stored in Zotero Database. There is a good chance that you would need to roll back to one of your previous backups in order to restore them.
  • It would really be a good idea if ctrl+z would undo a deleted annotation.
Sometime I press one backspace too many and the whole annotation is gone.
  • Sorry I was panicking.188BET靠谱吗I turned off auto sync and replaced zotero.sqlite with the old version. It works. Many thanks!!!
  • But note the part about overwriting the online library with that change. You don't want to leave auto-sync off.
  • @mm623Also, just for the record, how exactly did you delete those annotations, and how many?
  • 188BET靠谱吗I think that "turned off auto sync and replaced zotero.sqlite with the old version" is an insufficient solution to this problem (also noted in a Feb 2024 note).

It should be that "Undo" which is under Edit can undo changes made to pdfs.

As for how they are deleted, it really does not matter.Rather than making it less likely that they are deleted, the solution is for users to be able to undelete them easily.

In my case, I cannot tell exactly which keystroke deletes the comments I make to go along with my text highlights. What seems to happen is if I want to go in and edit a comment there is a kind of scroll lock and a keystroke like Ctrl left arrow or escape can delete the comment.I don't think it is because of backspace. In general it seems to want to treat my clicking in the comment as selecting the comment rather than placing a cursor in the text box to edit after my initial commenting is done.

  • @desarrollo: Undo for annotation changes is planned. The restore instructions are just the standard instructions for any sort of change — which could include a change by someone else, something from before you restarted, a whole series of incorrect steps, etc.— that you want to recover from.

Only standard-text editing shortcuts should delete comment text.If you can reproduce some other behavior, we'd want to know the exact steps in a new thread.
