PDF reader and note editor not working after downgrade

Hi everyone,

I started using beta7 and realized I wanted some plugins and downgraded to 6.After that, the pdf view and editing stopped working (on Mac).They're on the online version but I can't view them and/or open them to view or edit.

188BET靠谱吗I tried deleting the db, then the entire Zotero folder (in user../zotero).And, reinstalled 6 that way to see if that would fix it, but no go.

Disable all your plugins.188BET靠谱吗There shouldn't be any reason in Zotero itself that you can't switch between Zotero 6 and 7.

I'm not sure what you mean by "they're on the online version".

My issue persists (I don't have any plugins at this instance).

I would guess this might be an issue some others could face when they downgrade from beta 7.So, maybe good to note..

I'm not sure what you mean by "no reason"..I'm pretty sure some plugins don't work on 7, right?That's why I had to downgrade.(although beside my issue of the moment..)

And online version = web interface.I hope that clarifies further.

No, you're misunderstanding what I'm saying.

1) I didn't say there was no reason to downgrade.I'm explaining that there shouldn't ever be a problem with switching between 6 and 7 — we do it constantly the time during development, and many beta testers do so as well.This isn't something that needs to be documented — this problem shouldn't happen, and no one else has reported anything like it.

2) Re: "online version", I'm asking what you're actually trying to say. Whatis in the online version?What can't you view or open?What does the online library have to do with the PDF reader and note editor not working in the local desktop app?

Just to be extra clear.Below is a screenshot of the area I'm talking about.On Beta7 it works (tried reinstall of 7 twice and it goes back to working).I just need to get 6 working...

If it helps, clicking to edit in new window gives me the same blank area.

Sorry I'm not better explaining perhaps but happy to answer more questions.

Gotcha!188BET靠谱吗Sorry, I'm new to Zotero and might not have some of the terminology right.I'll try my best to explain more (sent that reply before I got your last).I appreciate you helping out.

In addition to above, and to answer you, on the web interface;
I can double click the title of an entry that is in my library, for example.That opens the editor.(sharing screenshot below to see what I mean by editor).When I click that on desktop it opens the web page, as an example.Maybe going by this specific example will be better to explain, but the issue is persistent with pdf files and editor working.

That empty area is the problem :)

It shows the actual content on the Beta7.

I think it'll help if you read through Steps to Reproducefor the kind of descriptions we need in order to help you.Just saying what you see isn't sufficient.You have to tell us what you're expectingto see, since this is very likely some sort of misunderstanding.

188BET靠谱吗Oh, are you thinking of the attachment preview that appears in the Zotero 7 item pane?188BET靠谱吗That's a new feature in Zotero 7 — it didn't exist in Zotero 6.

188BET靠谱吗And embedded attachment notes have been discontinued in Zotero 7, so that note editor doesn't appear there.

Still not sure what you're saying about the PDF reader.

Yes, that's it, but that now makes it even more confusing for everyone (sorry I didnt' realize the difference in versions) as I try to explain the bigger issue, which is PDF and editor not working.:)

Can we restart, and look at the issue from the web application point of view that I shared.188BET靠谱吗See that screenshot there I shared above?, where I can get to that web page reference I saved (using Zotero Chrome plugin).I'm able to see that reference on the web interface, under my library, and when I double click on the file it opens up this editor (screenshot above with content about cognitive theories..).Pretty simple function, right?

188BET靠谱吗In short, I can't open that editor in any way on Zotero, now that I reverted back to 6.

Is that clear?

188BET靠谱吗Because the Zotero 6 reader didn't support webpage snapshots.That, too, was 188BET靠谱吗added in Zotero 7, and it's since been added to the web library.

Ah, OK.Thanks for hanging in there with me, and helping.

That's great 7 has that feature now.Very cool.I'll have to use 7 and figure out another way to get my notes and citations referenced from my note taking app (Obsidian).
