Style Error: The Auk/The Condor
I have been having issues getting Auk/Condor to format correctly.I am trying to format a citation for software. The example in the instructions to authors (
http://www.americanornithologypubs.org/page/instructions?code=coop-site) is as follows:
SAS Institute.1990.SAS-STAT user's guide.Version 6, 4th edition.SAS Institute, Cary, NC, USA.
This is how it actually displays if I have it stored as Item Type: Computer Program:
R Core Team (2018).R: A Language and Environment for Statistical Computing.In.R Foundation for Statistical Computing, Vienna, Austria.
Notice the "In." before the publisher, which in addition to not being correct, is just odd.
I wondered if maybe in SAS user guide example is not thought of as a 'Computer Program' and is maybe instead some kind of document or report. Here is how it displays as a 'Document':
R Core Team (2018).R: A Language and Environment for Statistical Computing.[Online.] Available at https://www.R-project.org/.
Note that it assumes it is web-based and there is no longer a publisher.
Here is how it displays as a Report:
R Core Team (2018).R: A Language and Environment for Statistical Computing.[Online.] Available at https://www.R-project.org/.
Again, web-based and no publisher.

Let me put in a fix.Are both styles affected? Are those two styles the same actually?
edit: right click, save as and install to test: https://github.com/POBrien333/styles/raw/4e33f5f0e759c98036f8bfd3c7a45997124c43a1/the-auk.csl
Also, for references to books the style indicates there should be an 'In' before the edition number. But if there is no edition number it still puts the 'In' in the citation, so it ends up putting an 'In' in front of the publisher. Is there a way to leave the 'In' out if the edition field is blank?
Computer Program:

I'm not sure if I should be adding on to this thread or creating a new one.On the Requesting CSL Styles page it says to look for existing threads on the style in question under Reporting Style Errors.
I was looking at The Auk citation style before showing it to a biology class, and I noticed some issues with the italics.Italics are working fine for other citation styles like APA, but they are not showing up for The Auk citation style.
Here is the link to the page on the Ornithology Website for the style sheet: https://academic.oup.com/auk/pages/General_Instructions#Style Sheet
Here is the screenshot of the citations I got using The Auk style.

Some of the citations I used testing the style should be the same as the ones in the style guide (Matsuoka et al, Polačiková et al, and Powell, G.V.N.) or at least fairly close.
Also with Auk/Condor being the same, Condor appears to be having the same issue.
It's always more helpful if you're more concrete with what the errors are so I don't have to search for them.
"Current vs required" works best for us as it's very obvious then what's wrong.
Here's an edited style. Please test it out:

This looks fantastic, the only thing that seems to be missing is series name for book sections should also be italicized.
Thank you so much!
