can't change page number globally to roman numerals in pdf view

Sometimes the page number for an annotation is something like "xi" (book introductions) or "C1" (newspapers).If a letter is part of the page number, I can only change page for the current annotation.I should be able to change the page number for all annotations on the the same page globally.Thanks!
